SUMMER DRAMA CAMP (2010)
"Drama Camp Is Fun"
Four separate weeks of drama camp, under the direction of El Campanil
Children's Theatre Artistic Director, Sharon Redman, begin June 14th. Each
week provides new and advanced instruction, and offers a discounted fee.
El
Campanil Theatre Offers Musical Training in Summer Drama Camp
El Campanil Theatre's summer drama camp provides special training for musical
theater along with a guest instructor.
In addition to the basic acting training and stage experience included in drama
camp, there will also be an emphasis on musical theater. Whether your child
sings or not, they can still audition for musical theater with proper training.
Auditioning for musical theater and learning basic musical theater dance
movements will be incorporated into weeks two, three & four of drama camp.
Week one, (June 14-18) covers basic acting training for new and beginning
actors, and includes improv, creating a character, one-act skit's, how to
audition & have the best chance of being cast in a play, acting games and
exercises, fun with props and costumes, and building confidence and self-esteem.
Weeks two, three & four, June 21 thru July July 16) include auditioning for
musical theater, learning basic choreography and dance movements for auditions,
as well as intermediate and advance acting skills. Students will learn dances
and skits, as well as participate in role-play scenes, one-act skits and
developing and honing their acting skills and talents.
El Campanil Children's Theatre includes musicals in its season, and many young
actors have not had an experience to be in a musical, so this years camp affords
valuable training in voice and dance movement. Assisting profesional director,
Sharon Redman, will be Miss Katie Behnke who has performed in over 24 musical
theater productions in community, teen and school theater since the age of ten.
She has studied voice for eight years, and is currently a theater major at
Tulane University. Katie has starred in such productions as Les Miserables,
Guys & Dolls, Footloose, Grease, Bat Boy, and the
title role in Aida. She also portrayed the role of Annie Sullivan in
The Miracle Worker, which Sharon directed for Orinda Intermediate School
years ago. Her excellent voice skills and talents will be passed along to
students who are interested in being in musical theater as well as regular
plays.
El Campanil Theater's Summer Drama Camp provides professional instruction and
excellent training for its future productions. Class sizes are limited so each
student is afforded opportunity for individual instruction and one on one
coaching.
Drama Camp is fun
and will help prepare young people for auditioning for children’s plays, high
school drama and community theater. Early enrollment suggested as camp size is
limited.
