El Campanil Children’s Theatre Important Information for Parents & Actors!
Additional information and expectations for the parent volunteer opportunities on performance days:
- Backstage/Green Room - Four adults backstage - two adults should supervise the actors in the Green Room before and after the show.
- Please plan to arrive at the theater one hour before the performance.
- Tech Rehearsal backstage volunteers should arrive by 4:00 pm.
- Parents downstairs in the Green Room must stay after the performance until all actors have left.
- Host a School Performance - Provide small bottles of water or snacks (low sugar, low mess - think bagels, crackers, fruit snacks, and sandwiches and not chocolate, frosting, powdered sugar) for children in the cast.
- Ushers – Please report to the lobby by 8:30am on the day of the School Performances to receive instructions and prepare for the arrival of the children.
In order to put on quality productions there are a few rules that must be followed in the El Campanil Theatre:
- Only Actors and Volunteers scheduled to work during a performance are allowed through the Stage Door.
- Actors are to be dropped off at the Stage Door. No parents, siblings or friends are allowed backstage, in the Green Room or gain access to the theatre through the Stage Door at any time.
- If you are volunteering during a show, do not bring any additional children with you that require supervision. And if you are ill, please stay home. Notify the Stage Manager (Megan Flanery) megflanery99@gmail.com and we will find a replacement.
- Please observe all instructions from members of the House Staff. The staff is there to ensure the safety of everyone and to protect the property of the theatre. Professional conduct shall be used at all times when communicating with the House Staff.
- No food or drink other than bottled water is permitted on the stage, backstage or in the theatre. Food is only allowed in the Green Room.
- Parents, family and friends are encouraged to watch the show. The ticket prices are reasonable and the revenue from ticket sales ensures we can continue to offer the actors the opportunity to be on stage in the beautiful El Campanil Theatre without charging the actors a participation fee. ECCT does need to cover the cost of the theatre, technical staff, costumes, props, programs, etc.
- Tickets for all shows are General Admission. You must purchase tickets and enter through the Lobby of the theatre.
- You may not reserve seats ahead of time.
- If seating is available on Thursdays for the School Performances, parents may attend a performance for the same price as the Public Performances. There are no tickets given out, but see the Theatre Manager in front of the theatre on the day of the School Performance and they will collect your money before you enter the theatre. After the school children are seated, a volunteer will show you to your seat. Please be patient with us during the School Performances – we seat anywhere between 200 and 600 excited children per show. For the safety of the children and the sanity of their chaperones, we do not seat our parents in among the school children.
- Parents – please talk to your actor(s) regarding etiquette in the theatre. It is the actor’s responsibility to follow these rules in order to participate in ECCT productions. The Director reviews these rules with the actors during their first rehearsal and before performances.
- Actors must listen to instructions given to them by the Director, Stage Manager, Stage Crew and the parent volunteers scheduled to work during the show.
- Actors must remain quiet during the performances while backstage and in the Green Room – sound carries!
- Actors must keep the Green Room clean.
- Actors must hang up their costume neatly on the hangers provided.
- Snacks and drinks are provided on the days of School Performances and the Actors must put their garbage in the trash cans.
- Theatre staff and parent volunteers are not there to ‘clean up’ after the actors.
